First off, I am what is called "Essential Personnel" here at the Radio Station.
Which means, I keep everything going on-air. Programs edited, adjusted, and prepped for broadcast.
You don't hear me, but you do hear everything that i do.
Between getting my work done here at the Public Radio Station I work at, I have discovered through some dumb luck, piano covers of various songs during my downtime.
Trust me it started with me looking for the cover of the theme song for West World.
Well, check out the video below.
Well from there I sort of started to follow this YouTube channel and found the current track which is Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (Piano Cover) feat. Lucky Piano [Advanced]
As a result, I have drifted back to my youth when I was learning to play the piano and started to realize that as i watch these videos the almost rhythmic pattern for which the music comes forth. Sort of like playing Guitar Hero.
Take a look at the video for a retrospective.
But in truth, most of what this has me thinking about is how we look at patterns and how we try to work on things.
Most of all, how our brains start to hack the system down to make learning a pattern out of randomness, or turn randomness into a pattern.
I have started to notice that I tend to either over use the comma, or under-use it in some cases.
That is causing me to look at my writing more as I dive into it during the editing process.
Each one of us has our own strength and weaknesses when it comes to getting our first-draft out.
All those little things that spring up that scream Mistakes that completely drive us crazy as we read them back.
I have gotten into a habit using the "Read Me" function on my iPod to help in my editing process.
It doesn't catch all of the errors, but it helps in the breaking up of some of the more "wordy" sentences that I have.
But how much of that is just my brain stating: "This is how you think."
I tend to write in sprints and as I am writing this section I am keeping an ear open for the start of one of the news programs to come on air.
Though, these sprints are nothing new. But getting into that zone of writing stuff down does take a while. A good thirty minutes of getting all of your active notes up and reviewing them so that you can find that "sweet spot" where all of the ideas start to make sense.
Then like Ray Bradbury, one can start to compose their material together.
Editing becomes a secondary issues- well other than the occasional spelling issue. One want's those words to the page. The raw feeling of just letting loose and feeling that zone that you are in.
It is not so much like running, but the feeling of just letting words hit the page and the world just fades away as I go to that world that I have created and watch the scene unfold.
Writing and reading allow for that trip away from ourselves and to that place where we can have a vacation from reality.
Given how the past year has gone, we all need a little time away from ourselves to refresh, reconnect and recharge.
Well, here is to talking with you soon.
